Rainbow Springs Paddle & Swim

Rainbow Springs Paddle with Outsiders USA

Location:

KP Hole Park

Dunnellon, FL 34432

Where to launch:

We launch from KP hole and either paddle up the 1.5 miles to the swimming area or the full 4 mile paddle downstream to Blue Run. Paddling upstream you’ll find gorgeous clear blue water and lots of excellent swimming spots. The paddle is against the current but not too challenging. The paddle downstream to Blue Run is 4 miles, but you’re going with the current and many people just tie off to their board/kayak, put up a flag and snorkel the whole way.

Fees:

$5 per person to launch from KP Hole

Shuttle service is available from KP Hole for you and your board/kayak. The cost is $20 and you must launch before 12:45.

What to bring:

Board, paddle, flotation device + safety whistle, water, sunscreen and hat.

Join us for a meetup at Rainbow River or rent boards from us for $40/half day or $60/full day per person.

The average trip is about 1.5 – 2hrs if you’re just paddling up to the swimming area. For the full 4 mile drift/paddle down to Blue Run it’ll take about 3 hours total, depending on your speed.

Things to see:

The state park has a crystal clear swimming area and many trails for bird watching and is part of the Great Florida Birding & Wildlife Trail. There are campgrounds, canoe and kayak rentals available and absolutely stunning waterways to explore. Many residential houses line the sides of the main run, and there’s lots of swimming all along the paddle.

Best time of day/year:

We prefer going on weekdays always, but on the off season you can still get away with going on a weekend. Getting there early is always your best bet. During June, July and August it will be very busy on the weekends and they may close access to KP hole if their parking reaches capacity.
