Outsiders USA Beach Cleanup

Hundreds Brave Cold For Beach Cleanup

Hundreds of people braved the cold and wind on Sunday January 14 to participate in a beach cleanup on Daytona Beach. The event, “Clean Up The Beach, You Hippies” was the brain-child of Persimmon Hollow Brewing Company and Outsiders USA, both based in DeLand. This is the second beach cleanup hosted by the pair of neighboring businesses, this one removing over 1600 lbs of trash and recyclables from the “World’s Most Famous Beach”.

On a cold and windy morning, participants from all walks of life came to clean up the beach. The first group of volunteers to arrive was a group of nursing students from UCF’s Daytona Beach campus. Also in attendance was Sergeant Joseph Sellix of the Daytona Beach Police Department, who took time out of his supervisory duties to lend a hand and to encourage and thank the volunteers. “I just want to thank you guys for caring about this beach and coming to clean it up” said Sgt. Sellix.

The event was hosted by the Ocean Deck on Daytona Beach, and many of the volunteers stayed after their work was done to enjoy lunch and Persimmon Hollow Beer. Persimmon Hollow Brewing and Outsiders USA will host 10 cleanup events during 2018, alternating their efforts between beaches and inland waterways and springs.
